Jessie L. Spurr, 86 of 30th Street, Shapleigh died Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at the Newton Center in Sanford following several months of declining health. She was born in Acton, MA October 4, 1918, the daughter of Joseph W. and Pearl (Rickmen) Livermore.Jessie grew up on a farm in Acton, MA and attended local schools. She met her husband on an egg route in Lynn, MA and raised her family in Danvers, MA. She worked at an electronics assembly plant in Danvers for several years, and then worked in the cafeteria at Masconomet Regional High School in Topsfield for many years, retiring at age 65 in 1983.Together with her late husband, they bought property on Lower Mousam Lake in 1956. After school closed for vacation, she brought her family to the lake for the summer. They lived in tents for several years while building their summer cottage. The rule was: work in the morning and take the afternoon off.She was a member of the Springvale First Baptist Church, Mousam Lake Association, 1918 Club and Mousam Valley Chapter of the AARP. She was also a volunteer at the Newton Center.She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Ralph B. Spurr in 2002.Survivors include three sons: Ernest W. Spurr of Colorado Springs, CO, Lawrence C. Spurr of Shapleigh, ME and Ralph B. Spurr of Georgetown, MA; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.A memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at the Heald Funeral Home 580 Main Street, Springvale, ME. Rev. Kenneth D. Keating, pastor of the Springvale First Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Acton, MA.
