Harold V. Eaton

Harold V. Eaton, 98, of Sanford, died on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at the Newton Center in Sanford.Harold was born in Springvale on September 3, 1912 to B. Roy and Bessie (Smith) Eaton and attended local schools, graduating from Sanford High School in 1929. After graduating he attended General Electric Trade School in Lynn, MA for two years. When he finished school he ran the NJ Prescott Filling Station in Springvale for several years. In the 1930's he married Stella Prescott. They raised three children and remained together until her death in 1996. During World War II Harold went to work as a riveter at the shipyard in Portland. After the war he went to work driving the oil trucks for NJ Prescott Plumbing and heating until eventually acquiring the company in 1970. He continued to run the company for several years until his retirement in 1979.Harold enjoyed hunting, fishing and doing repairs around his house. He also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. For many years he owned and managed the building that housed Paras Pizza, Alan's Natural Foods and the Sanford News. He was a former member of the Sanford Call Fire Department during the 1950'S and 1960's and served for a time as the Assistant Chief before Sanford had a full time department. Harold was a quiet man and had a wonderful sense of humor. He will be remembered as a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his friends and family.Harold was predeceased by his wife, Stella Eaton and by a daughter, Mary Jane Fall.Surviving are two daughters, Priscilla Sharp and her husband Jim of Bath and Cynthia Rankin and her husband Royce of Sanford; seven grandchildren, Scott Peabody of Washington, Mike Peabody of Woolwich, ME, Jeff Peabody of Newport, ME, Greg Fall of Sanford, Gretchen Fall of Albany, ME, Amy Hinshaw of El Paso, TX and Jessica Rankin of Litchfield, NH; seven great grandchildren and two nieces, Lillian Lamb of Springvale and Glenna Richardson of Vermont.Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a funeral service following at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 12th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale.
