Doris A. (Cook) Greenhalgh, 81, of Springvale, formerly of Shapleigh and Warwick, RI, died August 18 at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH. She was born in Millville, MA on December 19, 1924, a daughter of Leslie H. and Ingeborg (Johnson) Cook. She was a 1942 graduate of Blackstone High School in Blackstone, MA. She worked for a time for AMICA Insurance Co. in Providence, RI as a data processor. In 1948 she married Edgar H. Greenhalgh and thereupon embarked on her self-proclaimed greatest accomplishment: raising four "wonderful" children. Longtime residents of Warwick, RI, the family moved to Maine in 1978. She moved to Springvale in 2003. While living in Warwick she was a member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church, and in Maine she was a member of the Crossroads United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing cards and staying in touch with friends and family. She liked to knit and crochet, solve crosword puzzles and was an avid reader. During the past two years of her life, Doris learned Swedish weaving and made a special blanket for each of her 3 grandaughters. She particularly enjoyed the company of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her husband of 55 years Edgar Greenhalgh, died in 2003. She was also predeceased by two sisters and three brothers. Survivors include a daughter Jane and her husband Jim Early of Bedford, NH.; three sons, Jeffrey and his wife Diane of Hebron, NH; Peter and his wife Terry of No. Berwick; Paul and his wife Debbie of Shapleigh; a brother Henry Raymond Cook of Temecula, CA; thirteen grandchildren John Macliver, Taryn Smith & Peter Early; Ryan Greenhalgh; Randy & Ricky Dolliver, Darcey Leighton, Roger, Kevin, Jordan & Skyler Greenhalgh; Steven & Amy Greenhalgh and seven great grandchildren, soon to be eight! Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 6-8 PM and again on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. A funeral service will follow on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Crossroads United Methodist Church in Sanford. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford.
