Freeport, ME - Our beloved son, Theo James Ferrara, died on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at the age of 14. Our hearts are broken, but we are so very grateful for the time we had with him and the love he gave us.\n\nTheo had a bright future ahead of him, and, as it is with the brightest of lights, he left an indelible mark upon all he knew. Theo, a Freeport High School freshman, was a loving son, brother, cousin, grandson, nephew, friend and teammate.\n\nHe was a truly kind soul who sought out opportunities to make others feel good about themselves—encouraging an apprehensive friend to join the soccer team, seeking out his little sister on the playground after school, or unabashedly telling his mom he loved her in front of a crowd of his peers.\n\nTo really know Theo is to know that his passions and intellectual curiosity ran far and deep—from academics to athletics to the arts. He was a geography savant who voraciously studied world maps, gifted artist, and introspective poet. He was a diehard Celtics fan. He was a proud honors student and talented athlete who loved soccer, basketball, and skiing. He enjoyed traveling with his family. \n\nWhen relaxing at home, he was a Europa Universalis IV gamer boasting over 1000 hours logged and an avid music fan, the Beatles’ White Album was a favorite. Theo was also humble, silly, principled and ironic. He admirably shunned social media, conspicuous consumption, and screen time. He was a relentless movie critic. His clothing choices were iconic. He was known for his “Vote for Pedro” t-shirt, his Harold and the Purple Crayon sweatshirt worn since 2nd grade, and his head-to-toe Celtics representation. His fascination with Xi Jinping—well, that is just unexplainable and quintessential Theo.\n\nTheo is survived by many who love him without bounds including his mother and father, Mia and Jarrod, his little sisters, Nina and Velia, his Grandmother, Kathy Ferrara, his Oma, Susan Saluga, his Aunt, Uncles and Cousin, Dacia and Rick McQuade, Bella McQuade, David Kulla and Jamie Kulla. He is predeceased by his Nonno, Jim Ferrara, his Sapta, Ofrah Kulla and his Grandfather, Michael\nKulla.\n\nA public celebration of Theo’s life is being held on Sunday, October 23 at 2pm in the Leon A. Gorman Conference Center, L.L.Bean Headquarters, 2 Double L Street, Freeport, Maine. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship has been set up in his name.
