PORTLAND - Arthur Samuel Rumo, Jr., 70, died peacefully, June 2, 2011 at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born March 7, 1941 in Portland, the son of Arthur S. Rumo, Sr. and Agnes Feroci Rumo Billings. He was educated in local schools and was a 1960 graduate of Portland High School. Arthur met the love of his life, Dolores Derrig in 1959. They were married on January 20, 1962 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and began his family. He was a communicant of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Arthur worked 40 years for Plumber's and Pipefitter Local 716 before retiring in 2003. Arthur was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 565, Portland Eagles and a former member of the Italian Heritage Club. He was famous for his homemade pizza every Sunday night. His favorite vacation was to go Downeast with Dolores and his family. Arthur was a wonderful father and grandfather. Even on Papa's final day on earth, as sick as he was, he told his special grandson Nick; "I love you." Arthur was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Mary Elizabeth Rumo Bell. Surviving are: his wife Dolores of Portland; a son, Shawn Arthur Rumo; two daughters, Bernadette Rumo Higgins of Yarmouth, Michelle R. and husband David Higgins of Portland; five grandchildren, Katrina, Brittany, Meaghan, Nicholas, and Michael Higgins all of Portland; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, June 6th at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited at 9:15 a.m., Tuesday, June 7th at the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress Street, Portland. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
