South Portland-Winston Holmes Brooks Jr., aged 94, of Millinocket and South Carolina, passed away on April 30, 2024, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. He was born in Sanford, Maine, on June 24, 1929, the son of Winston H. Brooks Sr. and Floss J. (Junkins) Brooks. Winston attended local schools before enlisting in the United States Army. Throughout his life, Winston pursued various career paths, showcasing his dedication and versatility. He worked at US Steel in Pittsburgh for several years before joining Sanders Associates in Nashua, NH. Eventually, he found fulfillment in a 30-year career at Great Northern Paper Mill in Millinocket in the position of Superintendent of Stores. Beyond his professional pursuits, Winston found joy in leisure activities. He was an avid golfer and possessed a passion for woodworking, where he demonstrated his skill by building furniture and cutting boards, as well as sheds and garages. He cherished time spent at the cottage in Isleboro, ME, creating cherished memories with loved ones. Following his retirement, Winston and his wife, Bette, relocated to Anderson, South Carolina, where they spent 30 years together. During this time, he contributed his talents to Carolina Car Auction, further exemplifying his strong work ethic and dedication. Winston was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Brooks, his son, Jeffrey Winston Brooks PhD., and his brother, Darrell Brooks. He is survived by his daughter, Christina, and her husband, Michel Duvernay, of South Portland, his four grandchildren, Camilla Brooks of Norway, Alexandra Brooks of Seattle, WA, Allison Constable of Hartford, CT, and Heather Baldwin of NYC, and his great-granddaughter, Alissa Baldwin of Dracut, MA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In accordance with the family's wishes, all services will be private.
