Winifred Van Houten

Winifred Van Houten, 87, of Lower Cross Road, died at home Saturday, June 21, 2003. She was born in Campgaw, NJ June 11, 1916, a daughter of George and Madeline (Thorn) Mc Kee. She had lived here since 1959 and formerly lived in Lincoln Park, NJ.She was the former associate editor of the Lincoln Park Herald, Lincoln Park, NJ and was past president of the New Jersey Women's Press Club. Upon moving to Maine, Mrs. Van Houten assisted her husband in a small print shop. She was a former member of the Lebanon Historical Society and assisted with its craft shows for years. She was also a former director of Pine Tree Legal of Maine and a former director of York County Community Action. She was a library aid for 4 years at Lebanon Elementary School and evening librarian at the former Nasson College for 12 years. At age 79 she retired from the transportation department of York County Community Action. Following retirement, she operated day trip bus tours for senior citizens in Springvale and Lebanon.She was a member of North Parish Congregational Church in Sanford, where a memorial service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, June 28, 2003, and interment will be at the convenience of the family. She is survived by two sons, Jan Van Houten of Lebanon and Victor Van Houten of Moultonboro, NH; 3 grandchildren, 4 great-granddaughters and 3 nieces.For those who desire, memorial contributions in Mrs. Van Houten's name may be made to Lebanon Rescue, P.O.
