Winifred K. Nason died on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005 in Pewaukee, Wis. She was 96.Born on March 25, 1909 in Peabody, Mass., she was the daughter of the late William and Myra Kimball.Mrs. Nason graduated from Normal School in 1929 with certification as a school teacher, and started teaching in Hanover, N.H. She married George A. Nason on Sept. 5, 1936. The couple resided in Acton, ME. Mrs. Nason stopped teaching to raise their three children, but in 1947, she resumed her teaching career in Acton. She later taught in Shapleigh and Lebanon. She retired from Springvale Schools in 1971.Mrs. Nason completed enough courses to earn her B.A. in 1964 from the University of Maine at Orono, the same year that her son David received his master's degree in education and her son Richard received his B.S. in forestry, also from the University of Maine at Orono.Her husband, George, died in 1970.After retiring, she took several memorable trips to Europe, and she spent her winters in Florida. Mrs. Nason was a gardener and an avid reader and poet, and she enjoyed music. She also loved playing "Trivial Pursuit" with family members at the family camp at Acton, ME.Survivors include her two sons, David and his wife, Lois, of Blue Hill Falls, ME, and Richard and his wife, Sheila, of Glens Falls, N.Y.; a daughter, Ann Dow and her husband, Sherman Dow of Pewaukee, Wis.; and her sister, Barbara Campbell and her husband, William. She was predeceased by a brother, Herbert Kimball, and a sister, Marian Blauvelt. She had nine grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two cousins and several nieces and nephews.Services will be conducted at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale, ME., on Oct. 8, 2005. Visiting hours will be at 2 p.m., with the funeral at 3 p.m. Interment will be at the Acton Corner Cemetery.There will be a reception at the Acton Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, at 4:30 p.m. for family and friends.In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Nason's name can be made to the Acton-Shapleigh Historical Society, Box 545, Acton, Maine 04001.Condolences may be expressed at the tab at left.
