South Portland William M. Tracy, 80, died Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. Born in Portland, William was the son of the late Patrick and Catherine (Earls) Tracy. He attended Holy Cross School and graduated from Cheverus High School, Class of 1953. Upon graduation, William enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for 20 years. He served on various ships: The USS Tumult; USS Monrovia, USS Macon, USS Boston, and the USS Fiske. While in the Navy he served at shore stations in Rota, Spain, US Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Da Nang, Vietnam and ended his Naval career as a Chief Boatswains Mate in Newport, R.I. While serving in Spain, William met Dolores Maria Ventura Torres. They were married August 15, 1964 and shared nearly 52 years of marriage. William and Dolores moved back to Maine where they raised their family. Following his discharge from the Navy, William worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years retiring in 2007. He was a communicant of Holy Cross Church, a member of the VFW, American Legion and DAV. Above all else, William loved his wife, cherished his children and adored his grandchildren who called him Abuelo. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dolores; his children, Patrick J. Tracy and wife Tracy L. of Cape Elizabeth; Linda R. Geiger and husband Scott of Middletown, NY; sister, Christine Mallory and husband Donald of Scarborough; brothers, John Tracy and wife Olympia of South Portland, Rev. Philip M. Tracy of South Portland, Bernard Tracy of Biddeford; also survived by grandchildren, Erin Tracy, Natalia Geiger and Liam Geiger; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, Robert Tracy. Visiting Hours will be held on Monday, August 15, 2016 from 4-7PM at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 10:15AM followed by a 11AM Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Rd., South Portland. Interment with Military Honors will be held at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Homes, proudly serving the veterans of Greater Portland.
