Scarborough- William P. Burke, 62, of Saco Street died peacefully at his home following a brief illness.
Billy was born in Portland, Maine on September 6, 1959 the son of the late William F. and Julia P. (Foley) Burke. He graduated from Portland High School in the class of 1978.
On June 23, 2001, Billy married the love of his life, Debra Sacco
Billy started working for the State of Maine in the state liquor stores, a job he held until 1992 when the state closed all their liquor stores. He then transitioned to the Department of Motor Vehicle, retiring in 2014 after twenty-five years of service. He then went to work for Regional Transportation Program where he was employed up until the time of his death.
He was an avid Red Sox fan, enjoyed cooking and was the grill master, he loved summers camping with Debra at Wassamski Springs in Scarborough. He was a member of the Portland Eagles, Harold T. Andrews Post of the American Legion, and the Order of Moose. Billy loved being around people, having fun and making people laugh while doing karaoke. He especially loved celebrating his favorite holiday, St. Patrick's Day. Billy will be remembered as a funny, happy go lucky, caring, life of the party who was always willing to help others.
Billy was predeceased by his wife, Debra D. Burke in September of 2021; two sisters, Diane Marie Burke, and Jean Elizabeth Burke. He is survived by a brother, Dana and his wife Linda Burke of Scarborough; two sisters, Julie Thoits of Norway, and Marie Burke of Windham; a step-daughter, Kimberly and her husband Bob LeClair of Saco; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; several cousins including "Crazy Cousin" Patti Watts.
