William Abbott

August 11, 1959 ~ May 24, 2026

William Abbott, 66, of Springvale, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 24, 2026, following a nearly two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Somerville, Massachusetts on August 11, 1959, William was the son of Robert and Rose (Gobeil) Abbott. He grew up in Somerville and attended local schools. Following his education, he proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving his country for four years while stationed at Camp Lejeune and in Hawaii. His time in the Marines was a source of great pride throughout his life.

After completing his military service, William returned to Somerville where he began working as a painter before eventually finding his true calling in carpentry. Skilled with his hands and gifted with a remarkable mechanical mind, William spent the rest of his working life building, repairing, and creating. He had a natural ability to figure out how things worked simply by looking at them, and there seemed to be very little he could not fix.

In 1988, William married the love of his life, Jenifer Mason. Together they shared nearly 38 years of marriage and raised three sons whom he loved deeply. In 2001, William and his family relocated to Maine, where they built the family home that became the center of so many cherished memories. He enjoyed woodworking, tackling projects around the house, and staying busy with whatever needed attention.

William was known for his outgoing personality, warm heart, and unforgettable sense of humor. He loved making people laugh and could always be counted on to lighten the mood, even during difficult times. Throughout his long health battle, he never lost his wit or his ability to bring smiles to those around him. Generous with both his time and talents, William was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Above all else, he will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, loyal friend, and kind soul who touched the lives of many. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

William was predeceased by his parents and by his brother, Bobby Abbott.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Jenifer Abbott of Springvale; his three sons, Keith William Abbott, John Joseph Abbott, and Sean Mason Abbott, all of Springvale; his siblings, Joseph Abbott of Sanford, Brian Abbott of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Diane Evans of Michigan; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Saturday, June 6th, at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. Interment with military honors will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 10th at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Stanley Road in Springvale.

Arrangements are under the direction of Black-Heald & Walker Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
