Wayne Larkin

Wayne Larkin, 80, of Ocean Avenue, died peacefully July 6, 2003, at York Hospital after a long illness. He was born May 8, 1923 in Los Angeles, the son of Mark and Hazel Crow Larkin.After graduating from high school in Richmond Hill, NY, Mr. Larkin served in the Army during World War II. He later graduated from the former Hofstra College and Newark College of Engineering. For thirty-two years, he was employed as a technical writer for the electronic industry and as a freelance writer for defense contractors. At the time of his retirement in 1987, he was working in the computer industry.Mr. Larkin had resided in New Jersey and Nashua, NH before retiring to Wells in 1989.He was an avid photographer and active amateur astronomer. He was a member of the Astronomical Society of Northern New England and the Society for Technical Communication. He was a Literacy Volunteer and did AARP tax preparations in the Sanford/Springvale area. He was a swimming enthusiast and completed close to 2000miles. Mr. Larkin was a member of the Wells Congregational Church.He was predeceased by a son, Ross Steven Larkin, in 1957. He is survived by his wife, of fifty years, Helene Kydd Larkin of Wells; two daughters, Jane M. Hamor of Danbury, NH and Suzanne H. Larkin of Beverly, MA; and three grandchildren, Brian, Seth and Sarah Hamor.A service of celebration of Mr. Larkin's life will be held at 11:30 AM Monday, July 14th, 2003 at the Wells Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Bangor Street, Suite F, Augusta, ME 04330, or York Hospital, 15 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909.
