Warren L. Ham, 76, well known resident of Shapleigh, died suddenly Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.He was born November 4, 1926 in Nashua, NH the son of Edward E. and Alice M. (DeWare) Ham and was a graduate of Pepperell High School, Pepperell, Massachusetts. Warren served in the U.S. Army during WWII with the occupation troops in Germany. He married Ruth Straitiff in 1950 and was employed as a clerical worker for the Veterans Administration in Washington, DC. He also worked in logistics and supply for the National Security Agency in Ft. Meade, MD from 1953 to 1966. He lived in Alexandria, VA from 1950 to 1958 and in Glen Burnie, MD from 1958 until moving to Shapleigh in 1973. Since relocating here, Warren worked in several jobs including Standard Electric in Portland, and the former Aerofab and Computervision plants in Sanford.As a "homebody", he enjoyed his farm and garden. He tended his geese and chickens and cut firewood for his home. He was a "grandfather and father" to many in Shapleigh and was a member of the Shapleigh First Baptist Church.He was predeceased by a son, Edward, in 1980.Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Ruth S. Ham of Shapleigh; a son, Kevin S. Ham of Limerick; three daughters, Jean A. Lynch of Glen Burnie, MD, Karen L. Ham of S. Portland, Patricia A. Mayo of Kennebunk; a brother, Everett C. Ham of Sykesville, MD; a grandson, Ryan Mayo; 3 nieces and 2 nephews.Visiting hours will be today, October 2, 2003 from 6 to 8 pm at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, where a funeral will be held at 11 AM Friday. Pastor Les Dorr of the Shapleigh First Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Highland Grove Cemetery, N.
