Wallace Joseph McDonald,79, of Sanford, ME, died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at his residence at Mayflower Apartments in Sanford ME. Wallace "Wally" was born on January 13, 1943 in Clair, New Brunswick, to Auguste and Lorette (Levesque) McDonald. He was baptized and confirmed at Eglise catholique Saint-Francois-d'Assise,in Clair. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army from 1968 - 1970 serving abroad in Vietnam.He was employed in many places throughout York County, but most notably he served the Holy Family parish as a Sexton for over 20 years. In his "prime", Wally was a triathlete and marathon runner. He loved canoeing, camping, photography, and spending time with friends and family, especially around the breakfast table. He especially loved spending time frequenting his grandson's sports games, and even landed a photo in the local paper. Wally was beloved by all he came into contact with, it was hard to go anywhere with him and not have him find an old friend or make a new one.Wallace was preceded in death by his parents, Auguste and Lorette McDonald.Wally is survived by his son, James, and grandson Charles. Siblings, Reynald, Barbara, Nancy, and Lewis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 2nd at 11AM at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford. Family and friends may pay their respects to the family starting at 10AM. Committal prayers with military honors will follow at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Springvale.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.Condolences may be expressed at www.blackfuneralhomes.com
