Virginia Theresa (Richards) Malia

WINDHAM - Virginia Theresa (Richards) Malia, of Roosevelt Trail, died unexpectedly on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Maine Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. Virginia was born in Portland on September, 23, 1927, a daughter of Lionel and Margaret (Gallagher) Richards. She attended Westbrook schools, and upon graduation worked at Coles Express as a bookkeeper. She married John P. Malia on May 16, 1953, at St. Mary's Church in Westbrook, and for the next 60 years she was a devoted wife and mother. John passed away on February 13, 2013. Virginia was a resident of Windham and Daytona Beach, Florida. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Windham. She was predeceased by her parents, and her sister, Arlene Bowman. She is survived by her three daughters, Catherine Malia Roak of Portland, Elizabeth Purington and her husband Wayne of Windham, and Margaret Kneeland and her husband Robert of Windham; a son, Peter Malia and his fianc(c)e Elizabeth Staples Brown of Standish; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She has many nieces and nephews, as well as several brothers and sisters-in-laws to whom she was very close. Virginia's family wishes to thank the amazing team of caregivers; Dr. Stephen Barr, MMP MaineHealth Cardiology, and Maine Medical Center CICU for their professionalism and loving care they provided to Virginia. Visiting hours will be held 4:00 - 7:00 pm, Wednesday, June 5th at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am, Thursday, June 6th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 919 Roosevelt Trail, Windham. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
