1930-2021
PORTLAND--Virginia Hope Briggs (nee: Moody) was born March 5, 1930 in Perham, Maine. She left this world on September 22, 2021 at age 91. She married Scott Briggs on November 27, 1969, and was married for 48 years before Scott's death in 2018.
Together they lived in Windham, ME where she worked as a housekeeper at the Holiday Inn and as a housewife after that. She was a kind loving person with a big heart that loved her family, her dogs and her childhood in Perham. Obeying her final wish, she will be laid to rest beside her Mother in Perham.
She is survived by step-son Jeffrey Briggs (wife Laura), four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces.
A very special thank you to Deb Richard, her caretaker and friend, who was there for her both personally and professionally. Also, thanks to the Barron Center and the Portland Center for Assisted Living for Virginia's care the last few years, and to the Hospice Center of Southern Maine for their care. The family thanks you all!
Her Memorial Service will be Monday October 11 at 11a.m. at the Conroy Tully Walker South Portland Chapel 1024 Broadway, South Portland.
With deepest sympathy,
– David, Barbara and Dorothea Libbey
The last time I spoke with Virginia was September 21st. She said to me: “I am not sick” “do not worry about me I am fine” “I love you Debbie” I will remember her words and her tender squeeze. She is at peace now.

One of the last times I was able to break Virginia away we escaped to the Eastern Prom. but not before I stopped and purchased both of us a pint of butter Pecan ice cream. I brought the spoons ! We sat for the longest time eating our ice cream and watching the boats. Such simple things she enjoyed. As the pandemic closed in on us I was able to go outside the window of her room. we would make faces at each other and laugh. Good days shared. Thank you Virginia. I miss you ! Deb
