Vernor O. Libbey

Vernor O. Libbey, 93 years old, of Lebanon, ME died on January 26, 2004 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.Mr. Libbey was born on April 3,1910 in East Lebanon, Me. He was the son of Herbert and Edna Worster Libbey. Mr. Libbey attended Lebanon and Sanford Schools and is a 1928 graduate of Sanford High School.For 14 years Mr. Libbey worked at the Sanford Textile Mill; he then began a career in agriculture, working many years for Lovejoy Orchards, Twin Ridge Orchards, and raising cows until his retirement in 1975. During his retirement Mr. Libbey raised prize-winning gladiolas. His flowers were greatly admired by many in the area. Mr. Libbey also enjoyed making latch hook rugs, and cutting wood.Predeceasing him is his wife of 58 years Marion Draper Libbey, their son Herbert Libbey, and their daughter Dorothy Pitman.Surviving is a daughter Karen Cote and her husband Richard of Berwick, a son-in-law Roy Pitman of E. Lebanon, a sister Fannie Downey of Long Island, NY, four grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-granddaughter.Visiting hours for Mr. Libbey will be held on Wednesday January 28, 2004 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. An 11:00 AM funeral service will be held on Thursday the 29th at the Lebanon-North Berwick Baptist Church.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Lebanon-North Berwick Baptist Church at P.O.
