Thomas G. McKenney

January 6, 1938 ~ March 22, 2026

Thomas G. McKenney passed away on March 22, 2026 at Maine Medical Center following a sudden medical event.  He was surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine on January 6, 1938, to Wendell and Dorothy (Ballard) McKenney. He was deeply devoted to faith, family, and service. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, he joined the Limestone and Caribou Police Departments, followed by a career with the United States Border Patrol.  Tom rose to the rank of Chief Patrol Agent in charge of the San Luis Obispo, California sector. Most of his career was spent in California before retiring and relocating to Wells, Maine in 1995.

Tom is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patricia (Peterson) McKenney. Tom was predeceased by his brothers Roger and Vern (Buck) McKenney. He is survived by his sister Judy Leighton of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Tom leaves behind his three children Kim Morrell and Dana of Caribou, Maine, Mike McKenney of Wells, Maine, and Scott McKenney and Jessica of Shapleigh, Maine. Tom loved spending time with his five grandchildren, Kylee Kathleen, Dana Tyler, Riley Kay, Neveah Elizabeth and Meadow Claire.  Tom was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Tristen Jameson, Aspen Kennedy and the most recent addition, great-grandson, Maximus Thomas.

Arrangements are being handled by Black Heald and Walker Funeral Home and per Tom’s request, there will be no services. Those wishing to honor Tom’s memory may donate to the charity of their choice.

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about Tom’s passing. I was Tom’s secretary at the San Luis Obispo Border Patrol Station he was a great man, boss & friend. He will be missed.

  2. First met Tom when I was in the Patrol in Van Buren and Tom was on the Caribou PD. Kept in touch off and on for many years while both our careers crossed paths in California, and at FORBPO Conventions. Honored to have known Tom. Condolences to the family.

  3. So sorry to see Tom passed away. We have been friends since the 1970’s in Bakersfield Ca where he and my husband were in the Border Patrol together. Wishing the family peace and kindness and happy memories of Tom and the family. Rest in peace, Tom.
