PORTLAND - Therese P. Mercier, 80, of Portland died July 13, 2011 in Portland. She was born July 13, 1931 in Rumford, the daughter of Clodomir and Marie Faucher Mercier. Her elementary education was at John the Baptist Parochial and Stephens High School in Rumford, graduating in 1949. She furthered her education at St. Joseph's Hospital School of Practical Nursing directed by the Felician Sisters in Bangor, Maine and earned her LPN certification. Therese worked for Maine Medical Center, St. Joseph's Manor and Seventy-Five State Street; for a total of 36 years before retiring. She was a communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and regularly attended Mass at the Monastery of the Precious Blood. She was very dedicated to her parents and her family. She loved visiting with relatives at the family homestead in Quebec. Therese had many interests. She enjoyed sewing, loved nature; she was an avid skier, snowshoer and walker. She enjoyed concerts, varied lectures at USM and bus trips to Sacred Shrines in the United States, Canada and Europe. Therese was predeceased by her parents and her brother Normand in 2001. Surviving are: her brother Leonard A. and his wife Fave of Dixfield, Maine and many cousins. Prayers will be recited at Friday at 9:15 a.m. at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress Street, Portland.
