YARMOUTH, Maine - Susan “Suzie” Levitz, 74, passed away suddenly on March 24, 2024 in Yarmouth after a long illness. Suzie was born on May 17, 1949 in Cambridge, MA, the daughter of the late Irvin and Martha (Franklin) Levitz. Suzie grew up in Belmont, MA, and graduated from Belmont High School in 1967. She went on to pursue her passion for art at The New England School of Art in Boston and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, where she met and fell in love with her future husband, Chris Jacques. In 1975, the couple embarked on a new chapter in northern California, drawn by Chris’s career in Silicon Valley. They lived there for about 45 years, and Suzie came to adore California. She pursued many occupations, using her ‘gift of gab’ as a telemarketer, traffic school instructor, and most notably an improvisational actor. Her true passions were expressed in her artistic talents, which ranged across several mediums including embroidery, animation, and especially portrait drawings in pencil and ink. Suzie was known for her wit, talent, and charm, and was recognized as an award-winning artist. Suzie's home with Chris became a sanctuary not just for themselves, but for others in need, as they took on the unofficial role of fostering a young family in crisis for three generations. Her playful and childlike spirit brightened the lives of those around her, especially children. Suzie had a special place in her heart for all things Disney and was known for her ability to sing perfectly all the words to Disney songs, as well as various show tunes—she had a wonderful voice. As time passed and circumstances changed, Suzie's health and the loss of her beloved husband, led her back to New England. Suzie's appetite for life included a profound appreciation of food and fostered her culinary talents. Suzie will forever be remembered for her positive yet outspoken attitude, her vivacious personality and unwavering love. Suzie is predeceased by her husband, who was by her side for nearly 45 years, Christopher Jacques; and cousin Barry Ferency. She is survived by her sisters, Jennifer Levitz Aronson and partner Pharrel Wener of Gloucester, MA; Sandy and her husband Chet Lunner of South Portland, ME; and brother, Michael Levitz as well as cousins, Shmuel and Susan (Neiman) Ferency, Gershon Ferency, and Homer Sewell III. A Celebration of Suzie's life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland, ME. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Suzie’s memory to No Hungry Kid at nokidhungry.org or a charity of your choice.
