Susan C. Butsicaris

Susan C. Butsicaris, 51, died October 21 at the Newton Center in Sanford while surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.She was born in Sanford on May 11, 1954 a daughter of Richard C. and Irene (Vermette) Simpson, Sr. She was a graduate of Clintondale High School in Mt. Clemens, MI where she was voted homecoming queen.She was employed with General Motors in Detroit, MI. She moved to Wolfeboro, NH where she owned and operated the Smith River Depot in Wolfeboro Falls for several years. She returned to Michigan and worked as a manager of the Lindall Athletic Club in Detroit. She returned to Maine due to health concerns.Family members recalled how positive she was in the face of adversity. She was completely devoted to her children and was a 2nd Mom to many of their friends. Her smile and sense of humor never wavered through many years of difficulty and health issues.She was predeceased by her father in 1972 and by a sister, Patricia Abate in 1991.Survivors include 2 daughters, Crystal Butsicaris of Acton, Stephanie Butsicaris of Sanford, a son, Johnathan Butsicaris of Sanford, her mother of Sanford, 4 brothers, Maurice Griffin of Clinton Township, MI, Frank Griffin and his wife Sherry of Mt. Clemens, MI, Richard Simpson, Jr. and his wife Paula of Sanford, Timothy Simpson and his wife Carla of Springvale and several nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday at 10 AM at the Curtis Lake Christian Church in Sanford. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford.
