Resided in:
Portland, Maine
Susie Rita Cline (Allen), age 80, died on September 9, 2024, at her home in Portland, Maine, after a long illness. She was born on March 31, 1944, in Thomaston, Maine, the daughter of Clarence H. Cline and Phyllis Grace Doyle Kaler.
Susie attended Thomaston High School, graduating in 1962. After graduation, Susie attended the University of Maine at Orono. She married and began raising a family in Brunswick, giving birth to Rebecca in 1965 and Christopher in 1968.
Susie moved to Portland in 1977 and remarkably returned to college as a single parent with two young children, earning a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies-Humanities from University of Southern Maine. While raising her children and taking evening classes, she worked for a local law firm. After raising her children, Susie continued to be a professional caretaker for many needy families, including in New York City for her dear friend the late William Tillinghast of Pelham.
Susie was a very religious person and attended Trinity Episcopal Church in Portland for many years. She was also an avid artist and poet, having created and produced many wonderful pieces for her family and friends’ enjoyment. Her favorite art piece is Andrew Wyeth’s The Patriot, a portrait of her cousin the late Ralph Cline of Spruce Head. She was also a music lover and enjoyed listening to classical music and Elvis on her record player. One of her fondest memories was taking her children to the sold-out Michael Jackson Victory Tour (Thriller) concert at Giants Stadium. Susie spent much of her free time attending cultural events - concerts, symphonies, museums, art galleries, and broadway plays - and watching Jeopardy! If the subject involved the fine arts, she could not be beat!
Family was so important to Susie. She looked forward to the time spent with her daughter and partner Michael; son and his wife Kathleen; grandchildren Samantha, Zachary, Jacob, and Grace; and friends at Franklin Towers. She loved and is survived by her sister, Sigrid Keyes and family of Thomaston; brother Walter Kaler and his wife Linda of Warren; and brother Gregory Kaler and his wife Brenda of South Thomaston.
