Resided in:
Sanford, Maine
Steven Rautio was a third generation Finnish - American born in Dayton, Ohio on Nov 3, 1950 to Reuben and Lyyli Rautio, the fourth of eight children. He passed on Jan 16, 2024 in Biddeford, Maine due to pulmonary failure secondary to the Lymphoma cancer with which he suffered for several years.
Steven attended Colonel White High School. He had a roofing business and was a hard worker, until he was too disabled to work any longer. He enjoyed cars, playing poker, camping, and hanging out with family.
Steven charmed many people and made friends in his adopted state of Maine. He had a gentle, quiet soul. Our family is appreciative of all the people in Maine who made Steven's life easier as he struggled with chronic illness.
Steven has five surviving siblings: Gail Bogart in Goodyear, AZ; Richard (Judy) in Dayton, OH; Susan (Jim) Rautio-Dietz, PhD, Karen Burgett, and Liisa (Michael) Gordy in Bloomington, IN. He was predeceased by his parents, and twin brothers William and James.
Surviving nieces and nephews include: Douglas Bogart, Lynnette Bennett, Rick (Pauline) Rautio, Anthony Shane Rautio, Eric (Lori) Burgett, and Breshan (Sondra) Weaver, as well as many great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and many loving cousins.
Steven's ghost in the nursery was his lost son Joey.
Steven and sister Karen were so much alike that they were sometimes mistaken as our family twins in their childhood.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Eastern Time on Saturday, May 18th at the family plot in Oak Park Cemetery in Knox, IN alongside of his twin brothers, parents, maternal grandparents and maternal great-grandparents.
My love and condolences go out to all the family. Steven’s memory will forever live in our hearts.
