Sophie W. Goodrich

Sophie W. Goodrich, 87, of Sanford, ME died late Sunday evening November 17, 2002 at Mercy Hospital in Portland. Mrs. Goodrich was born on August 20, 1915 in Worcester, MA. She was the daughter of Andrew and Sophie Lisowski Bobchick. She worked for several years at the Sanford Woolen Mills, and Sprague Electric Mrs. Goodrich was one of the first female motorcyclists in the area, riding from 1936 until 1982. She loved the thrill of going to the Laconia, NH races. Mrs. Goodrich enjoyed gardening, cooking, going to the beach, feeding the birds, picking berries, going to local fairs, caring for her cats, dancing, and a good polka. She always took time out for her grand children. Surviving are 8 sons; pastor Alan J. Goodrich of Dover, NH, John F. of Sanford, Ronald D. of Hookset, NH, Daniel B. of Sanford, Gary G. of Sanford, Wayne L. of Sanford, Lyndon G. of Sanford, Philip A. of Rochester, NH; 4 daughters, SoSo S. Williams of Sanford, Noella J. Jeeves of Westbrook, Sylvia A. Marquette of Kansas City, MO, and Ansie S. Stuart of Wells, ME. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 6 great great-grandchildren, and sisters Annie White of Sanford, and Helen Foucault of Sunrise, FL. Funeral services for Mrs. Goodrich will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday November 20, 2002 at the Heald Funeral Home, Springvale, ME. Committal services will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Waban Projects, 5 Dunaway Dr. Sanford, ME 04073.
