Shirley Clarke McIntyre, 83, of Springvale, passed away on Wednesday November 16, 2005 at H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford. She was born in Davenport, Iowa on April 30, 1923 a daughter of William H. and Estella M. (Quackenbush) Clarke.The family moved to Sanford when she was a young child. She attended local schools graduating from Sanford High School Class of 1941. She then attended the University of New Hampshire earning her Bachelor's Degree and then a Master's Degree. Her teaching career as well as heading the science dept. spanned 23 years with the Sanford Junior High School retiring in 1983. She was a 68 year member of the North Parish Congregational Church in Sanford. She was a member of the College Club, Order of Eastern Star, York County Retired Teacher's Association, as well as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Sanford Library. She was also involved with the Sanford Girl Scout camp as well as Camp Sagisca in Acton. Some of her travels took her to Europe, Scandinavia, across the United States and Canada as well as the Caribbean Islands.What brought her greatest joy and happiness in life was her family, the outings, celebrating the holidays. She was at her happiest when the family table was full.She is predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Glen G. McIntyre who passed away in 1999. She is survived by her children, Timothy McIntyre of South Paris, Anthony McIntyre of Springvale, Susan Doiron of Sanford and Sarah Blevins of Sanford, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers she requested contributions be made to the Class of 1941, Sanford High School Scholarship Fund, C/O Allan Young, 52 Sanford High School Blvd, Sanford, Maine 04073A Celebration of her Life will be held on Friday November 18 at 2pm at the North Parish Congregational Church in Sanford. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Cornish.Condolences may be expressed at the tab at left. Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.
