Shirley T. Hawker

Shirley T. Hawker, 80, of Sanford, died March 20 at his home after a long illness.He was born in Charlotte County, Virginia on September 9, 1935, the son of Willie T. and Ella (Jones) Hawker.On August 2, 1952, he married Rebecca Gwaltney, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage and five children.Shirley was employed as the plant supervisor for Encore Shoe, retiring several years ago. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and snowmobiling with his friends at his camp in Greenville. He was a member of the Lafayette Club, the Sanford Lodge of Elks and the former Knights of Columbus Fraternal Club.Shirley's family will remember his as a Dad who loved his life and lived it to the fullest.He was predeceased by a son, Donnie Hawker in 1960.Survivors include his loving wife Rebecca Hawker, daughter Patricia Hawker and her husband Charlie Hand, son Martin Hawker and his partner Kelly Jones, son William Hawker and his wife Donna, daughter Rita Hawker and her wife Moe Parker, three grandsons, Andy, William II and Chris, great granddaughter Hannah Hawker, great grandson Preston Hawker, and three sisters, Doris Brame, Nancy Duke and Linda Parker.A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, March 24 at 1:00 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, where relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 11:00 AM.
