Shirley Marie Dumont

Shirley Marie Dumont, 89, of Falmouth died peacefully November 12, 2011 at Falmouth by the Sea. She was born December 18, 1921 in Skowhegan, the daughter of Adrian Frank and Estelle Fortier Turcotte. Shirley graduated from Skowhegan High School and attended Catholic University in Washington, D.C. She attained her Registered Nursing degree at St Mary's School of Nursing in Lewiston. During World War II, Shirley served as a First Lieutenant Nurse, stationed in the Philippines. She married Gabriel Oliver Dumont in Skowhegan at Notre Dame de Lourdes on June 2, 1946 and began raising her family. During her nursing career Shirley worked at Redington-Fairview Hospital and for Dr. Richard Laney in Skowhegan and Dr. John Knowles of Portland, Maine. She and her husband also lived in Port Charlotte, Florida before moving back to Maine in 2004. Shirley was an avid sportsperson and excelled in playing tennis and basketball. She loved watching all sports with her grandchildren who were the light of her life and she the light of theirs. Surviving are her husband, Gabriel; her two daughters, Barbara Bene and her husband Herbert Michael of Venice, Florida; Martha Estelle Dumont of New York City; a son, Gabriel O. Dumont, Jr. and his wife Christine of Boston, Massachusetts; a brother, Adrian Turcotte of San Diego, California; three grandchildren, John Gabriel Dillman, Sophie Estelle Dillman and Thomas Adrian Dillman. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Falmouth by the Sea for their loving care and devotion. Services will be private.
