Ruth Hilda Tebbetts

Ruth H. Tebbetts, 94, longtime resident of Waterboro, died May 15, 2004 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.Ruth was born in Kingman Maine on October 6th, 1909, a daughter of Uriah and Carolina (Hanson) Varney. The family later moved to Orono where Ruth attended schools, and graduated from Orono High School in 1928.That year she moved to Sanford with her family where she met her future husband Herbert A. Tebbetts. They were married on December 26th 1930 and lived in Sanford until 1974 when they moved to Waterboro.Ruth worked in several places over the years. She ran the Sanford Country Club Cafeteria from the mid fifties until 1963 and then went to work for Sprague Electric until 1971.She was a member of the Sanford United Methodist Church from 1928 and active in the woman's society for many years. She was a member of Ruhama Rebekah Lodge and was past Noble Grand. Ruth was a generous woman who loved life, had many friends and adored her family.She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, in 1989. Also, by 4 sisters: Inez Tozer of Orono, Avis Stansfield of Sanford, 2 sisters that died in childhood, Hanna and Helen, 3 brothers; Samuel Varney of Sanford, Roscoe Varney of Waterboro and Roy Varney of Orono. She is survived by a daughter: Barbara Page of Rochester New York, a son, David Tebbetts, and his wife Anna of Waterboro. 5 Grandchildren; Erin Myers and her husband Gary of Chili New York; Gordon Page and his wife Cindy of Evergreen, Colorado; David Page and his wife Wendy of Hamlin, New York; Bergthora Sinclair and her husband Peter of Sanford; and Terry Grant and her husband Eric, of Old Orchard Beach. 3 Great-Grandchildren, 4 Step-Great-Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great-Grandchild, 2 Step Great-Great Grandchildren and Several Nieces & Nephews.At her request there will be no funeral.A Memorial Service will be held at the Crossroads United Methodist Church, Route 202 in Sanford June 5, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crossroads United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 290, Sanford, ME 04073.
