Rudolph A. Landry, 90, of Pompano Beach, Florida and Sanford, Maine passed away on February 23, 2008, in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Rudy was born in Sanford on March 29, 1917, a son of Alphonse and Cecelia (Martin) Landry. Here, he was raised along with eight other siblings and attended Sanford schools. As a young man, he also worked as a weaver in the Goodall Worsted Mills in Sanford. On September 14, 1940, he married his wife, Germaine Cloutier of Derry, NH.Rudy and Germaine relocated to Livermore Falls, Maine where he initially owned and operated a Western Auto. Later, he owned and operated Landry's Furniture Co. in Wilton, and eventually opened a new store in Livermore Falls. He raised his four children in Livermore Falls and will always be remembered for his sharp wit and as a wonderful entertainer to friends and relatives.In 1969, Rudy retired to Pompano Beach, FL with Germaine, and vacationed summers in Sanford. During these summers, he sold furniture part-time until the age of 88, at Landry's Furniture Barns, also in Sanford. Here, he was proud to have three generations of Landry's all working together, himself along with his sons and grandsons. He also had a great love for the game of golf which he played until this past fall with his sons and long time friends. Rudy returned to Sanford for the last time in March of 2007 for his 90th birthday celebration where he was honored by a reunion of family and friends. Prior to his passing, he was looking forward to returning once more to attend the wedding of his granddaughter, Katherine, in June.Rudy was a loyal member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #1470 in Sanford and of Pompano Beach. He is predeceased by his wife, Germaine Landry of 56 years, his son, Ronald Landry, his six brothers, John, Dollard, Rene, Albert, Edgar, and Raymond and his two sisters, Marie Cecelia and Alliette..He is survived by his children, Rene Landry and Charlotte Uhlman of Thornton, NH , Rudy Landry Jr. and his wife, Judy of Lexington, MA, Ricky Landry and his wife, Debbie of Springvale, ME, his grandchildren, Mark Landry of Boston, MA, Jennifer Hansen and her husband, Rob of Newburyport, MA, Jason Landry of Oakland, CA, Katherine Landry and Michael Godin of Manchester, NH, Kyle and Jordan Landry, both of Springvale and his great grandchildren, Kasey and Chloe Hansen of Newburyport, MA. He is also survived by his sister, Cecilia, and her husband, Henry and many other family members, nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom he loved dearly.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Maine Children's Cancer Program, 100 Campus Drive, Suite, 107 Scarborough, Maine 04074. An elks Lodge #1470 fundraiser.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday May 10th at 11am at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford.
