Rosemarie T. Powers
January 23, 1952 ~ April 1, 2026
Rosemarie Thompson Powers, of Yarmouth, passed quietly on April 1, 2026, her husband and siblings beside her.
Rosemarie was born in Pawtucket, RI, the second of six children of Joseph R. and Rose Nadeem Thompson. She was Catholic educated, graduating from St. Joseph Grammar and Sacred Heart High Schools. Rosemarie was a proud member of the first class of registered nurses at Rhode Island College and had established a scholarship fund to support fellow second-generation students. She spent forty-five years attending meticulously and compassionately to her patients, the past three decades at the Maine Medical Center. Rosemarie married Patrick A. Powers in September of 1978. Always ready for adventure, they resided in Idaho, New York and Presque Isle, Maine before settling in Yarmouth. Their cabin on Cross Lake was where Rosemarie found great peace. Rosemarie loved travel and she and Patrick made numerous trips abroad and domestically.
Serving others was Rosemarie’s life purpose. She held her family together in time of need, regularly providing a listening ear, earnest advice, shopping expeditions, a prepared dinner or delicious treat. Her home was open to all and was frequently shared with friends and family members. The smell of baking and tantalizing dishes permeated the air, making prolonged stays inviting.
Rosemarie’s smile was radiant, highlighting a natural beauty enhanced by perfectly applied makeup and designer clothing. Rosemarie continually challenged herself, keeping her mind agile and her body strong, the later especially during her struggle with Interstitial Lung Disease.
Rosemarie lived a rich and beautiful life filled with warmth, tenderness and generosity, demonstrating how to live courageously with joy, gratitude and unconditional love.
She will be extraordinarily missed by her husband; grandchildren, Ella, Keegan and Jacen Berry and their father, Jason; her mother, Rose Thompson; her siblings, Judith Heerlein (Robert), John Thompson (Janet), Malcolm Thompson and George Thompson (Erin); brothers-in-law Peter Powers (Jane) and Daniel (Debbie), sister-in-law Mary (Kevin), as well as nephews, nieces, cousins and many dear friends. Rosemarie was pre-deceased by her daughter, Katherine R. Powers; her father, Joseph R. Thompson and her brother, Joseph E. Thompson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 17 at 11:00AM at Sacred Heart Church, 326 Main Street, Yarmouth, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yarmouth. Following the services, relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a reception beginning at 1PM at the new Conroy-Tully Walker Cremation, Funeral, and Gathering Center, 300 Allen Avenue, Portland.

to my big sister Rosie,
You were always the dependable one. Always the smiling one, handling everything thrown your way with grace, dignity, guts and aplomb. We will all miss you. Our world is now a bit darker without you in it.
Love,
John and Janet
I am very sorry for your loss John
Pat and Family, I met Rosie when she and Pat bought their Cross Lake home. She instantly became a beautiful and treasured friend. With much love and many hugs, Brenda (Felch)

So sorry to hear of your significant loss!
Time has past and we seldom are in touch but that does not take from our memories. Susan and I are thinking of you during a difficult time. Our thoughts are with you.
So sorry,
Cal and Susan
To Rosie’s loved ones….
Rosie was a bright light shining in dark times, always a smile on her face and joy in her heart. I always loved seeing and being with her, although it had been years since I’d last been in touch. However, I will not forget this lovely woman – I will think of with fondness and hope that she is RIP. You will be missed, Rosie… ❤️
We had good times atRIC and cramming into the car to get there. Seems you had a wonderful and full life. I know you will be missed.
We were blessed.
She will be missed but never forgotten. We were blessed to have her in our lives.
Dearest Rosie,
You were like a big sister to me and how I wish I had told you how your determination to receive a college education when told “NO” by parents, and that Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School was a much better option for we girls of the 70’s, was a true inspiration. I remember going to 28 Denver St and seeing you come through the door in your nursing school uniform, or when you graduated with that stiff white hat with the black ribbon in a clear carrying case and thinking that maybe I should try nursing. I too loved my job as an RN and I have you to thank from the bottom of my heart for your influence in helping me to choose my career path.
As we used to say to each other, “Once a nurse, always a nurse!”
I will forever miss you.
God Speed, Rosie!
Lisa
Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time Pat. I just can’t believe she’s gone from us. I can still hear her singing in my ear (great voice that always kept me on key). I want to believe she is having a grand reunion with all those she loved so dearly. Peace to you my friend.
Rosie thank you for introducing me to my husband AJ of 47 years. We had many memories.
AJ and Diane
Vince and I are heartbroken for you. Rosie had such a beautiful presence and a kind, warm spirit- we feel lucky to have known her. You will be in our prayers for peace.
