Ronald “Mr. T” G. Trudeau, 90, of 15 Froswick Ave, South Portland, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough. Born on September 3, 1934, in Malden, MA, Ron was the only child of Raymond and Iola Trudeau. Ron was a lifelong sports enthusiast who loved New England teams, especially the Boston Celtics. He enjoyed playing basketball and golf, achieving a memorable hole-in-one at Willowdale Golf Course, and excelled at darts, earning numerous trophies. A proud member of the VFW, Ron was a social butterfly known for his knack for running into someone he knew wherever he went. Ron was a graduate of South Portland High School and at the age of 19 joined the Army, an experience he described as “ the most rewarding time of my life besides my wedding day.” He met Judythe, the love of his life, at the Sebago Lake Sorority Camp. Their relationship flourished through phone calls and postcards during his military service. They married on August 14, 1954, and shared 53 loving years until her passing in 2008. Ron retired after 33 years with New England Telephone and moved to South Portland in 1966. He loved his family deeply and is survived by his children, Larry, Rory (wife Deborah Elliott), Brett, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, cousin Robert Trudeau (wife Cyn) of Ocala, Fl, many special friends and extended family. Known affectionately as “Mr. T,” Ron had a deep love for butterflies. This passion endured throughout his life, symbolized by the four butterfly tattoos he proudly wore. Ron also adored his terrier mix, Waco, calling him "Waco Boy." Each year, he celebrated Waco by taking out a birthday ad in the newspaper. Ron spent his final five years at the Maine Veterans’ Home, where he formed many cherished friendships. The family is eternally grateful and would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff and residents of the Maine Veterans’ Home. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Judythe, his daughter-in-law Terry, and his beloved Waco. Visiting hours will be held on 12/3/24 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home in South Portland, with a funeral service at 12 p.m. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ron’s memory may be made to the Animal Welfare Society, Kennebunk.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My grandfather was such a great guy and I enjoyed all the time I spent with him. He would tell me so many stories about his life while we were watching TV, at the racetrack or just grabbing a bite to eat. I will miss all those times so much. I will miss all the cards he used to send me in the mail. Always so thoughtful with the words he would say. I hope you and bumper Judy are getting ready to play a game of Yahtzee together. Miss you and love you always your grandson Yogi.

  2. I will always remember Ronnie with great affection. The many times we sat around the kitchen table playing yatzi or spending holidays with the Trudeau family will always hold a special place in my heart.i will mis him very much, but the one thing I’m sure of is that heaven will be a brighter place now!

  3. Bumper was the greatest Granddad any kid could ever have! He and bumper Judy loved us all and every time we went to their home they gave us treats and we played games and watched movies till way past our bedtime! Christmas was so much fun too! Nana Trudeau would arrive with hundreds (yes, hundreds!!!) Of little presents for everyone to open! The Trudeau home was filled with love and laughter year round and those memories will never fade!!! Thank you for letting me share these thoughts, ineke…

  4. My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ronald Trudeau. I have heard so many wonderful stories from my brother Adrian about the great times they shared. May God help you through this difficult time. Sincerely, Adrian’s brother James

  5. Many thanks to the Trudeau family for giving us the opportunity to come together at such a beautiful funeral service for Ronald. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Deb and family…

  6. Deborah is my sister. Larry and Deb gave Bumper his first grandchild, Adrian Michael Trudeau. The photo of Nanna Trudeau holding Adrian as an infant, with Bumper and Larry represented the four generations
Judy took this photo. It’s memory is priceless and showed the deep sense of family that Bumper had.
Some of the best Thanksgiving Days I have ever had were shared with Bumper. Adrian would pick him up and bring Bumper to my condo. Sometimes a fried of his would join us. It did not matter if my turkey gravy had lumps, it wasn’t noticed, because of the happy time we were having together.
Bumper and I shared a common thread, we both loved our fur babies! I so enjoyed hearing about his Waco Boy.
My Thanksgiving Day will never be the same without Bumper.
I would sincerely like to thank the person who put the memorial video together. My hat’s off to you!

  7. Ronald and his wife Judythe (“Bumpa” and “Bumpa Judy”) often had me and my sister Lacey stay at their house on the weekend. Bumpa would take me to the local video store (owned by his neighborhood friend Charlie) to rent all the (badly made) VHS horror movies I wanted to see. And he’d even watch them with me too. We’d laugh and joke the whole time while Bumpa-Judy would bring us dinner, sodas, snacks and ice cream. Bumpa would say “I don’t know about these movies Jamie! These are terrible actors/plots etc.!” He was the best!!!

  8. Strongest heartfelt condolences to the Trudeau’s for this huge and sad loss!!! The Obituary and Memorial video beautifully captured Ronald Trudeau (a.k.a. Mr T./Bumpa)! It was so great to read about and see photos from the different parts/times of his life/past, great to see photos of him with his wife Judythe (aka Mrs T/Bumpa Judy and his mom Iola (Nana Trudeau) also deeply missed/loved and amazing grandmother/great grandmother figures. So sorry I can’t be there but I’ll definitely be there in spirit. He’ll always be remembered and loved as a kind, welcoming, lively, social, loving, giving, humorous, caring, involved, and thoughtful grandfather figure from my perspective.
    Love and condolences!
    James Richardson (JR/Jamie)

  9. Ronald Trudeau’s step grandson. Thought of him as my real grandfather/also only grandfather figure I ever knew or had. I’ll always be grateful for his positive/caring/loving influence and how he treated me just like any of his actual grandchildren. I was very very lucky to have Ronald and Judythe (“Bumpa” & “Bumpa Judy”) in my life as grandparents!!!

  10. Brett, Larry, and Rory, our hearts are with you. We hope all the good memories help you through this difficult time. Joe and Lisa Dominicus

  11. Mr. T,

You are sadly missed and fondly remembered for your quick wit, charming smile, Saturday Columbo time and of course Celtics chats. Rory, Deb, Larry, Brett and Mr. T’s extended family may everything Mr.T was to you fill your heart with love and kindle your spirits with fond memories.

Much love to Mr.T and family,

    MJ and Lee
