Roland R. Landry, 89, of Springvale, died on Friday, August 16, 2019 at the Lodges Care Center in Springvale.Roland was born on February 25, 1930 to Joseph and Pauline Landry in Sanford where he grew up and attended local schools. When he was 18 he joined the United States Navy and proudly served for 20 years. One of the highlights of his time in the military was serving for two years as a member of the Blue Angels. Following his military career he returned to Sanford where he held maintenance position at several of the local mills.In 1973 Roland married Peggy Roy and they shared 15 years of marriage until her death in 1988. In 2000 he married Pauline Auger and they shared 16 years of marriage until her death in 2016.Roland was a devout Catholic and had been a communicant of St Therse of Lisieux Parish and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also an avid golfer. He was always very generous with his time and was happy to assist whenever a family member or friend needed help. Roland was predeceased by his first wife, Peggy Landry; by his second wife, Pauline (Boucher) Landry and by his step-daughter, Jane Guay.Surviving are two siblings, Robert Landry of Connecticut and Levina Carette on Milton, New Hampshire.Surviving are four step-children, Judy Desroberts and her husband Michael of Sanford, Arthur Roy and his wife Geraldine of Sanford, Leo Paradis and his wife Debra of Springvale and Norman Paradis and his partner Claire Thibeault of Sanford; his son-in-law, Dennis Guay of Sanford and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 24th at St Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church located on Payne Street in Springvale. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Lodges Care Center and Compassus Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Roland during his period of declining health.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to the St. Thomas School Scholarship Fund, 69 North Avenue, Sanford, Maine 04073.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please visit www.blackfuneralhomes.com.
