Roger N. Woodcock Jr. 69, of Arundel, Maine, passed away on Friday, September 18th, 2015 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.Roger was born in Sanford, Maine on October 16th, 1945. He spent his childhood in Sanford, Rumford, and eventually Augusta, Maine where he graduated from Cony High School in 1964. In 1968, Roger joined the Seabees of the United States Navy where he fought honorably in Vietnam.On August 9, 1974, Roger was married to his devoted wife, Linda J. Lapointe. They were married for 41 years.Roger worked as a builder for the Arizona State Carpenters Union for a number of years before returning home to Springvale, Maine, where he worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for over 20 years. He enjoyed reading, gardening, and most of all being with his family. Utilizing his skills and knowledge as a Master Gardener, he was also actively involved in Harvest for Hunger, an organization focused on eliminating hunger in the state of Maine.Roger is survived by his wife Linda, son Jonathan and his wife Carrie, son Christopher and his wife Andrea, daughter Heather and her husband James, son Steven, grandson Noah, and granddaughter Samantha.Roger is preceded in death by his mother and father, Phyllis and Roger Woodcock, Sr.A memorial service will be held on Saturday at the Carll Heald and Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and service will follow at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to The Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine at www.gsfb.org/donate/ or The American Lung Association, 122 State Street, Augusta, ME 04330.
