Resided in:
Sanford, Maine
Robert (Bob) Plante passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, November 23rd, 2024 at Southern Maine Hospital after a short illness. He was 87 years old.
Born on April 6th, 1937 to Romeo and Cecile (Gouin) Plante in Sanford, Maine; he grew up and lived his whole life in the local area. Bob had fond memories of his childhood, playing ball and fishing with his brother and helping his father with his garden and chickens. After attending local schools, he started working in the Sanford Shoe Shop where he met the love of his life, Dolores (Dolly) Emmons. On November 23rd, 1961 they were married and together, raised four children. He eventually worked for General Electric for over 20 years and retired. In retirement, he decided he still needed something to do and worked for the Sanford bus department as a monitor for several years.
Bob and Dolly enjoyed spending time with their family and friends creating memories: playing cards, eating seafood, camping, traveling, swimming in their pool and enjoying Mousam lake. Bob was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He mourned the loss of Dolly in 2005 and died on what would have been their 63rd wedding anniversary. We know Dolly was waiting to celebrate with him in heaven after nearly 20 years apart.
Bob is predeceased by his parents, his brother, Raymond Plante; brother-in-law, Hank Thibodeau, brother-in-law/sister-in-law William and Rachel Vaccaro and his beloved wife, Dolly. He is survived by four sisters, Sister Aline Plante of Marlborough, MA, Patricia Thibodeau and Rita Pelletier of Sanford, Terri (Mark) Cote of Springvale and Sister-in-law Irene Plante of Sanford. Four Children, David (Kristen) Plante of Embden/Sanford, Rachel (Mike) Vlk of Niceville, FL, Susan Cote of Sanford and Marc Plante of Springvale; nine grandchildren: Matthew Plante of Biddeford, Jeremy (Linn) Plante of Sweden, Colby (Colby) Fogg of Acton, Briana (Mike) LaFrance of Sanford, Morgan (Curran) O’Connor of South Berwick, Samantha (John) Clare of Springvale, Derrick Plante of Sanford, Kira Vlk of Dallas, Kylie Vlk of Lubbock; and ten great grandchildren: Braiden, Mason, Mackenzie, and Abigail LaFrance, Alice and Agnes Plante, and Johnny, Julie, Noah, and Connor Clare; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 5:00 PM Tuesday December 3, 2024 at the Carll-Heald and Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St, Springvale followed by light refreshments.
