Robert "Chuck" Charles O'Brien, 58 of Alfred, ME, tragically lost his life on Thursday, August 17th in a motorcycle collision in Naples, ME. He was the loving husband of Patricia and the dedicated father of Tom and the late Michael O'Brien.Chuck was born on May 29, 1948 to Louise and James O'Brien of Plainfield, NJ. He attended local schools and graduated from Union College, NJ receiving a degree in Law Enforcement. He continued his education at William Paterson College, NJ graduating Cum Laude with a degree in Public Safety Administration.Chuck served his country proudly in the United States Air Force from 1968-1972 completing two tours of duty in Vietnam. From there, he began a career as a law enforcement officer in New Jersey until 1985. It was then, that Chuck and his family moved to Maine when he accepted a position with the United States Postal Service, from which he retired in 2003. Most recently, Chuck worked for The Hanson Corporation in Ogunquit, ME. He also owned "Umpire Lawn and Snow Removal Service" which he said was "more of a hobby than work".Chuck honored and valued the importance of family. He cherished sharing memorable times with his wife and sons. Chuck surrounded himself with numerous friends, in doing so he further enriched his life. Chuck combined the gifts of family and friends with his love of the outdoors by hunting, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling and riding motorcycles and ATV's. Throughout his community, Chuck was a devoted volunteer for youth activities. He was most fond of umpiring baseball and softball.Chuck made it known to everyone that he deeply loved his wife Patricia each and everyday of their 28 years of marriage. Patricia and his son Thomas, his mother Louise O'Brien of Whiting, NJ and a brother James and his family of Mauldin, SC., survive Chuck. He was recently predeceased by his youngest son Michael "Biggie" O'Brien on August 8, 2005. Those who knew and loved him, particularly the Montesano family, will miss him for his outgoing personality and his love of life.Visiting hours for Chuck will be on Sunday, August 20th from 2 to 5 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale.
