Gorham- Robert Ekowicki

Robert Ekowicki, 85, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on July 1, 1941, in Portland, Maine, to Helen and Peter Ekowicki.

Robert grew up on Danforth Street in Portland as part of a large, close-knit family. Alongside his many cousins, he enjoyed a childhood filled with family, friendship, and lasting memories. He was raised in the Catholic faith at St. Louis Church, where he proudly served as an altar boy. He attended Cheverus High School before graduating from Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Robert built a long and distinguished career with GTE/Sylvania, where he worked first as an electrical engineer and later in sales. An innovative thinker, he was awarded numerous patents throughout his career and traveled extensively around the world for business. It was also at GTE that he met the love of his life, Jean. They married and shared 56 wonderful years together, building a life centered on love, family, and unwavering partnership.

While Robert was proud of his professional accomplishments, his greatest pride was always his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend whose kindness, gentle humor, and generous heart made everyone feel welcome.

He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—working in his garden, spending days on the golf course, hunting with his cousins, and creating cherished memories during summers at the lake. After retiring, Robert and Jean made their home in Gorham, Maine, while spending winters in Florida. There, Robert quickly developed a wide circle of friends and could often be found enjoying another round of golf, a pastime that brought him great joy throughout his life.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Jean; his son, Peter Ekowicki, and Peter’s wife, Connie; his daughter, Ann Cushing; four cherished grandchildren, Courtney, Kaitlyn, Elise and Emily; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Helen and Peter Ekowicki, three sisters Mary Ekowicki, Helena Caprio and Joan Costello, and one brother Richard Ekowicki.

Robert will be remembered for his curiosity, quiet generosity, steadfast devotion to his family, and his ability to make lasting friendships wherever life took him. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply and in the countless lives he touched through his kindness, warmth, and unwavering character.

Robert’s visiting hours will be in the Conroy-Tully Walker Cremation, Funeral, and Gathering Center, 300 Allen Ave, Portland on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 3-6 PM. His Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Anne’s Church, 299 Main Street, Gorham on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
