Robert "Rob" M. Kelley, a proud Irish American died unexpectedly after a very long illness, September 9,2003 at Maine Medical Center, in Portland.He was born in Sanford March 2, 1941 the son of Wilbur and Gladys (Meiers) Kelley and attended local schools. Rob was especially proud of his service career with the U.S. Navy. He received an honorable discharge due to a disability in 1961.Mr. Kelley earned his GED in 1986 and went on to school to become a certified nurses aide and was a dedicated employee of 14 years with Greenwood Nursing Home. Rob was well read and studied and researched many other interests such as: archeology, anthropology, and evolutionary biology in depth. Mr. Kelley was a gentle, kind, and caring man who loved watching and protecting nature. He devoted his life to taking care of others, as he too loved life. Rob would often work holidays and weekends to allow for his co-workers time to spend with their families. It was not unnatural for him to sit by the bedside of a hospice patient even though he had worked a long shift.Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Donalda Joyce (Pullen) Kelley of Sanford and his daughter, Jennifer Kelley of Portland and beloved longtime companion and dog, Amber. His mother, Gladys Kelley of Lebanon; 3 brothers: Michael and his wife, Anita of Lebanon; James Kelley of California and Ronald Kelley of Seattle, WA and his sister, Sharon Stevens of New Gloucester, Maine.He was predeceased by his father, Wilbur Kelley and his brother, Richard Kelley.Calling hours will be held on Saturday, September 13th. From 1 - 3 PM with a Funeral Service immediately following at 3PM. Rev.
