Robert Alan Jones

Robert A. "Bob" Jones, of Kennebunkport, Maine, died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at his home, at the age of 61. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 26, 1942, a son of the late Lauress M. and Eileen (Kelly) Jones. Mr. Jones was a member of the Harvard University Police Department for 40 years, obtaining the rank of sergeant. During his time there, he became part of the Harvard community in helping students and faculty. He was a bodyguard to Archibald Cox of the Watergate fame, members of the Kennedy family, Prince Charles and Presidents Ford and George H.W. Bush. Following retirement, because of health issues, Bob helped in the day-to-day management of the Harbor Inn and Cove House. Bob often entertained guests with his anecdotes and stories from his days at Harvard University. He was quick witted and often would have his friends crying with laughter. An avid reader of World War II, Bob visited many battlefields in Europe and had an extensive collection of first editions concerning the war. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Katherine "Kathy" (Barry) Jones and by his son, Barry Vye Jones both of Kennebunkport, Maine. Also, by two brothers, Lauress M. Jones, Jr. of Watertown, MA and John W. Jones of San Bernardino, CA. There are also many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 16, 2004, outside by the ocean, at St. Ann's, Ocean Avenue, Kennebunkport, ME at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Carney Gavin of the Harvard University Police Department, officiating.There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be sent to: Kennebunkport Public Health, P.O.
