Robert H. Gierie

Robert H. Gierie Sr.SpringvaleRobert Henry Gierie, 78 of Main St. in Springvale died late Wednesday evening, September 12, 2001 at his home.Mr. Gierie was born on September 1, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY. He was the son of Henry and Pauline Olsen Gierie. He attended school at Adelphi Academy in New York and is a graduate of Colgate University. He later received his Masters degree of mathematics from the University of Maine.He was a WWII Air Force veteran serving as a navigator. Upon his return home from the war Mr. Gierie would marry MS. Margaret Viet on August 18, 1951. Together they began a family in Warwick, NY. In 1969 the entire family moved from New York to Maine where Mr. Gierie began his career as a mathematics teacher. He retired in 1985 from the Sanford School district where he taught High School mathematics.In his spare time Mr. Gierie enjoyed reading, collecting stamps, gardening, and the occasional camp out. Above all Mr. Gierie will be remembered for his loyalty, honesty, being a good provider to his family, and his devotion to the ministry of the Jehovah's Witness.Surviving is his wife of 50 years Margaret Gierie of Springvale; two sons, Robert H. Gierie Jr. of Saco, Henry Gierie of W. Newfield; a daughter, Linda Barse of W. Newfield; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Margaret, Ashley, Robert III, and William. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins.Friends are invited to attend an 11:30 AM memorial service on Saturday September 15, 2001 at the Sanford Kingdom Hall.Arrangements completed the Heald Funeral Home, Springvale.
