Robert P. Allen

Robert P. Allen, 80 years old, of Sanford, died Tuesday afternoon September 9, 2003, at his home. Mr. Allen was born on July 16, 1923 at his parents' home in Alfred. He was the son of Robert and Myrtie Ridley Allen. He attended local schools, and at a young age proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Army.A carpenter by trade, Mr. Allen worked for himself for many years. He also worked for the Brown's Lumber Company. A lot of Mr. Allens' carpentry work can be seen in the camps of the Great East Lake, where he also cared for many of the camps during the winter months. Mr. Allen also made many fine pieces of furniture for family and friends alike.Mr. Allen enjoyed the outdoors, and spending time in his garden, and fishing. He collected clocks and pocket watches, and greatly enjoyed rides in the country reminiscing of younger years.Predeceasing him was his wife Lillian, and their daughter Deannie Worcester.Surviving are two daughters, Michelle Allen of Limerick, Candy Hurst of Lehigh Acres, FL; ten grandchildren, Peter J. Roy, Randy J, Roy, Molly A. Leavis, Megann A. Roy, Tyler B. Houle, R. Daniel Hurst, Michael P. Hurst, Lori B. Hurst, Becky L. Hurst, Mathew Worcester; seven great-grandchildren, Randy, Mitchell, Hope, Kaytlin, Michael, Amy, and Amanda. Also surviving are two sisters, Helen Cummings, and Theresa Watson.Services for Mr. Allen will be at the convenience of the family.
