Portland- Rita R. Prevost, 87, It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 5, 2023.
Rita was born on November 15, 1935, to Armand and Pauline (Boisvert) Poliquin in St. Johnsbury VT, the eldest of two children. She graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy in 1953 and six months later started dating the love of her life, Gerard 'Gerry' Prevost. On October 27, 1956 they were married at Notre Dame church and began their life together. One year later they welcomed their first daughter. She dedicated her life to her family, which grew to include six children, all of whom she loved dearly and was very proud. She kept the home fires burning, providing a wonderful home filled with love.
She was a devout Catholic all her life and followed and kept in touch with all those in her parish community. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and baking, and visiting with her friends.
Rita was predeceased (by a mere four weeks) by her beloved husband of 66 years, Gerard Prevost, her parents, and her sister, Simone (Richard) Lachance. She is survived by her children: Julie (Alfred) Lucci of South Portland and their children, Emily (Jeremy) Guillette with Jayden, Lucas, and Cole who was born on the day of her passing, Joseph Lucci and wife Darcy Berry of Freeport; Michael Prevost of Portland; Richard (Pamela) Prevost and their children Monique with Ellerie and Addison, Michelle Prevost of Topsham; Diane Prevost and her children Geoffrey (Jennifer) Tibbals and their children Charlie and Quincey of Gorham, and son WIlliam Tibbals and his daughters, Reagan and Madsion of Cumberland; Cynthia Prevost and daughter Hailey Grohman of South Portland; Lorelei Prevost and son Aden Perry of North Bethesda MD; her brother-in-law, Archie Prevost; and two sisters in law, Rita Airoldi and Madeleine (Roland) Ducham, as well as close cousins and nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered for her warmth, compassion, and the kindness she always showed others.
A special thank you to the wonderful staff at Mercy Fore River for their gentle care and support of our family.

Our heartfelt condolences for the loss of your dear mother. Our love and prayers are with you during this most difficult time. Your cousins, David, Raymond, and Joanne and your Aunt Rita.
I am sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. She must have missed her Gerry.
My deepest condolences to the Prevost family. Your mom was so thoughtful and kind and I enjoyed stopping in with Diane to visit her and Gerry. They are together now in Heaven. May she rest in peace.
To all the Prevost’s. I was so sorry to hear of Rita’s death so soon after Gerry’s. I loved visiting her when we would take trips to Old Orchard. She was always happy to hear from me or see me and welcomed me with open arms. She loved to reminisce about our mutual relatives. She was a prolific letter writer. She wrote me a letterer just a week before she died. I received it the day before I learned she had passed away. She was a great lady, and I will miss her. God bless all your, her children and grand children.
