Rita Babcock Johnson, 79, of 14 Back Road, Alfred died unexpectedly Friday, January 14, 2005 at home in Alfred. She was born in Alfred, September 1, 1925, a daughter of Walter and Grace "Ridley" Babcock, and lived here most of her lifeShe attended Sanford schools and graduated from the former Alfred High School. She was a homemaker most of her life but did work outside the home from time to time. She worked at the former Goodall-Sanford textile mills and Aletta Dress Shop in Springvale. Mrs. Johnson used to pick apples for the former Roberts Orchards in Alfred and was a waitress and dishwasher at Maude's Counter, a former restaurant and hardware store in Alfred. She was a former member of the Rebekah's in Springvale.She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Albert E. Johnson of Alfred; a son, David E. and his wife Ellen Johnson of Hampton, NH; 3 sisters, Ruby Sprague of Lyman, Gloria Sprague of Alfred and Nancy St. Peter of Sanford; and 2 grandchildren; Stephen and Sarah Johnson of Hampton, NH.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, January 17, 2005 at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. The Rev. Bruce Burnham, pastor of Alfred Parish Congregational Church, UCC, will officiate.
