He graduated from Sanford High School and obtained his teaching degree from The University of New Hampshire. He married his soul mate, Christine L. Wilkins in 1992. They had one daughter, Autumn E. Wilkins in their amazing 29 years together. Richard was in his 33rd year of teaching Physical Education and Health in the Sanford School District. Richard was predeceased by his father Richard L. Wilkins and mother Helen B. Wilkins. He is survived by his wife Christine L. Wilkins, daughter Autumn E. Wilkins and her husband Joshua J. Patnaude, his brother Robert Wilkins, and niece Jessica Wilkins. As a teacher and coach, Richard was a great role model and had a profound impact on many students in the Sanford community. Richard was known to be a loyal friend to many and always knew what to say in the right moments. As a husband and father, Richard was devoted to family and had an irreplaceable bond with both his wife and daughter. Richard loved to go north on weekends to spend time with family and friends to ski, fly-fish, and mountain bike. He always worked hard to play hard and lived life to the fullest. In lieu of flowers, he would be honored if you donate in his memory to a cause that he and his daughter volunteered as fly fishing instructors for 8 years, Casting for Recovery Maine.
