Richard Russell Thayer

Richard R. Thayer 1966-2024 SANFORD—Richard R. “Richie” Thayer, 57, of Sanford, died Friday July 26, 2024, with his loving wife by his side after a long battle with illness. He was born in Abington, Massachusetts, November 29, 1966, the son of Richard and Arlene (Angely) Thayer. He grew up in Abington, MA and graduated from South Shore Vocational Technical High School in 1985. In 2002 Richie married his best friend, Ann Brackett and shortly thereafter they relocated to Rhode Island. Richie worked for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) for 35 years, serving various roles throughout his carrier. Richie retired in 2023 and he and his wife Ann, moved to Maine fulfilling a lifelong dream of theirs to retire in Ann’s home state. Richie enjoyed watching the birds in his yard and had a particular fondness for hummingbirds. He also LOVED going for rides in his Mustang convertible, playing with his dogs and most important to him spending time with his family, whom he adored. Richie will be remembered as a kind soul, and a great listener. Mr. Thayer was predeceased by his parents and his father-in-law, Rod Brackett. He is survived by his wife, Ann; his son, Trevor Thayer and his wife Marilyn and his daughter Jennifer Thayer; his granddaughter, Camelia Thayer; his mother-in-law, Arline Fortier and her husband Rodney, and his mother-in-law Diane Brackett; his sister-in-law, Amy McEwen and her husband Shawn; his brother-in-law, Jonathan Brackett and his wife Dawn and his sister-in-law Emily Fortier; his nieces and nephews, Maggie, Sydney, Abby, Will, Mason, Lucas and Liam. Visiting hours will be at the Carll-Heald and Black Funeral Home, Friday August 9 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm with a service at 4:00 pm.
