South Portland – Richard “Rich” S. Sipos, 79, passed away on February 17, 2025, in Portland. Rich was born on September 20, 1945, in Bridgeport, CT, son of the late Sigmund and Irene (Kiraly) Sipos. Rich grew up in Bridgeport CT; he graduated in 1964 from Bullard Havens Technical High School. He then enlisted with the United States Coast Guard from 1965 until 1994, retiring as an E7 Chief Petty Officer. He was stationed in Portland Maine in 1966, where he met his soon to be wife of 47 years, Patricia Dunn. They married in South Portland, Maine at Holy Cross Church on Nov 24, 1968. They went on to have two children, Richie and Lisa, while residing in South Portland. He graduated from the University of Southern Maine in the late 1980s with his master’s degree. Rich worked for General Electrics (GE) for many years; later, moving on to work for Caron & Waltz as a master electrician for 27 years, from 1983 until his retirement in 2010. Rich enjoyed the summers up at the family camp in Limington, Maine. One of his deep passions was building model race cars and hot rods. Another love for Rich was spending time at the different New England racetracks with close friends, either in the pits or stands and also helping local race car drivers with their cars. With his love for street rods, Rich spent 16 years building a 1923 TC-Cab Delivery hot rod; he also helped with Pat’s 1940 Chevy Pickup. Once the hot rods were completed they attended many car shows and traveled to many locations with their close car club friends. He enjoyed watching his grandson Parker play many sports over the years, especially hockey. Rich was a dedicated father, husband, grandfather and friend to many. Always there to lend a helping hand at a drop of a hat with unconditional love, he will be greatly missed. Rich was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Patricia (Dunn). He is survived by his children, Richie Sipos and fiancé, Kelly Pinkham, and Lisa Sipos; grandson, Parker Sipos; aunt, Margie Kiraly; and many cousins and extended family members still residing in CT. The family would like to extent a special thank you to Dr. Winters and his team at the New England Cancer Center for their excellent care of Rich. Relatives and friends of Richard are invited to visit from 12pm – 2pm, immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 2pm, on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland.
