Richard A. Place

Richard A. Place, Sr., 64, of Lebanon died on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.Richard was born in North Berwick on November 25, 1941 to A. Frank and Della Hatch Place. During his working years, he worked as a farmer, a logger and a heavy equipment operator. He put his skills as a farmer to work around his property growing fruit trees, blueberries, grapes and many other things. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the Maine Trappers Association. He loved spending time in the outdoors and would often venture to remote parts of the woods that typical people would not dare. Attending the local fairs was one of Richard's favorite activities. He would spend hours watching the horse and oxen pulling and admiring the livestock that was being kept in the barns. Mr. Place loved animals; he had his own steer and ponies, which he liked to pull. He also raised chickens had a talking parrot named Magoo and a pet Chihuahua named Little Joe. Richard was a devoted family man; he had a big heart and would do anything he could to help somebody who needed it. He also had a great sense of humor and was constantly playing good-natured practical jokes on people. Mr. Place will remembered as a warm and loving and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.Mr. Place was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Wyre William Place.Surviving are his wife Linda Dauteuil of Lebanon; 3 sons, William Place and his wife Lorie of Waterboro, Richard Place and his wife Tammi of Westbrook and Ricky Place of New Hampshire; 5 daughters, Tammy Place of Parsonsfield, Jill Place of New Hampshire, Kelly Searles and her husband Donald of Sanford, Shelly Howarth and her husband Harry of West Newfield and Jodie Dauteuil of Lebanon; two brothers, John Place and his wife Ernestine and Robert Place and his wife Phyllis all of North Berwick; four sisters, Mary Place of North Berwick, Cheryl Gilker and her husband Arthur of Eliot, Iris Allen and her husband Roland of Sanford, and Priscilla Boston and her husband Elmer of North Berwick; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.A period of visitation will be held at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral home, located at 580 Main Street in Springvale on Friday, August 18, 2006 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions in Richard's name be sent to the American Heart Association, 51 US Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, ME 04074.
