Portland-Richard M. Colucci, 79, of Allen Avenue passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022 after a courageous, year and half long battle with kidney disease. His loving family was by side.
Richard was born in Portland, Maine on December 29, 1942 the son of the late Joseph and Mary M. (Dalfonso) Colucci. He graduated from Portland High School in the class of 1960 and then earned his Associates Degree from Southern Maine Technical College.
On August 26, 1967 Richard married the love of his life Martha J. McDonough at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland. Together they have shared 55 years of marriage.
Richard started his working career as a mason working for several different companies’ in the Portland area. In 1979, he went to work for the Railroad working his way up to Conductor. While working for the Railroad he served as president of the Rigby Yard Chapter of the Railroad Union. He retired, after 30 years of service, in 2009. While maintaining his full time job at the Railroad, Richard continued his passion of masonry work with his own business. He was a very skilled perfectionist in brick laying and was responsible for all of the brick work at the Woodlands.
In his spare-time he loved fishing both fresh water, salt water and ice fishing. Unable to ever remain idle he was always working in his yard, doing repairs, maintenance and renovations around the house or for other family and friends. He especially loved the holidays and being surrounded by family and friends.
Richard’s son Christopher summoned up his dad perfectly with these words “God simply broke the mold on Dad. His work ethic, perfectionism, persistence and no-nonsense approach to things was legendary. But so was his kindness, willingness to help anyone in need and deep love for his family, friends and co-workers.” “To paraphrase St. Ignatius, Dad was truly a man for others.”
Richard was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and Anthony Colucci. He is survived by his beloved wife, Martha Colucci of Portland; a son, Christopher Colucci of Portland; three sisters, Christine Simpson of Windham, Loretta and her husband John Burley of Portland, Patricia Pardy of Portland; sister in law, Theresa Colucci of Portland; many nieces, nephews, and in-laws who loved him dearly.

I met Richard when we were mason apprentices. I was just starting, and he was in his third year. I always admired his work ethic and the quality of masonry he did. I will never forget placing his concrete driveway with him.
Please accept our deepest condolences for your loss. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Dan and Jo Donatelli
