Richard Ted Goodwin

Richard T. "Ted" Goodwin, 92, formerly of Springvale, died on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough. Ted was born on December 15, 1924 to Richard and Ruth (Freeman) Goodwin in Oneida, New York where he grew up and attended local schools. Before graduating from high school, Ted enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served in World War II. After completing his term in the military he returned to New York and went back to school, graduating the same year as his younger sister Glory. During his working life, Ted was employed as a draftsman and stylist for General Motors, helping to design the latest model cars. He was also an accomplished artist and author, writing and publishing numerous books. Ted was an active and athletic man. He enjoyed playing tennis, bowling, golf, sailing, fishing, traveling and landscaping. He loved cooking and was also a very musical person, playing both the guitar and drums. He was a spiritual and religious man and had been a member of several different churches throughout his life. Ted had an excellent sense of humor and enjoyed joking and laughing with people and was a loving and caring man, always looking to help others. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend that will be dearly missed. Ted was predeceased by his son, Douglas Goodwin; his grandson, Jason Napper and his sister, Glory Goodwin Dunn. Surviving are his wife, Jean Goodwin; two children, Linda Buckley and her husband Mike of Michigan and David Goodwin and his wife Brandi of Limerick; three grandchildren, Jonathan Napper and his wife Heather of Michigan and Kira and Trevor Goodwin of Limerick; his great-grandson, Bennett Napper of Michigan and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 4th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, located at 580 Main Street in Springvale. Interment with military honors will follow at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery located on Stanley Road in Springvale.
