Richard I. Fletcher

Richard I. Fletcher, 59, of Shapleigh, ME died Tuesday morning December 31, 2002 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.Mr. Fletcher was born on March 22, 1943 in Springvale, ME. He was the son of George and Gertrude Farwell Fletcher. He attended Sanford/Springvale schools where he was a member of the Sanford H.S. band. Mr. Fletcher enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country for several years. He worked for Foley construction as a carpenter, and at one time was a steeplejack. In his spare time Mr. Fletcher enjoyed the outdoors. He grew an extensive garden, highlighted by his asparagus patch. He enjoyed scuba diving, crafting with drift wood, and recently began bee farming. Mr. Fletcher was a very caring man that gave a whole hearted effort in whatever he pursued.Predeceasing him is his father George.Surviving is his mother Gertrude Fletcher of Shapleigh; two sisters, Carole Allen of Sanford, Muriel Gile of Alfred; two daughters, Rebecca Lovely of Plaistow, NH, Richelle Shackford of Sanbornville, NH, a son William Iverson of S. Berwick, 8 grandchildren, and a very special friend Suzanne Allen of Shapleigh.On Saturday January 4, 2003 friends and family are invited to attend a 2:00 PM memorial service at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main St. Springvale, ME.In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Pleasant St. Free Baptist Church of Springvale.
