Richard A. Carr
Richard "Red" Carr, 81, of Sanford, passed away on May 6, 2011 at Maine Medical Center in Portland following a brief illness.Born April 24, 1930 to Phyllis and A. Homer Carr, Richard was raised in Falmouth and graduated from Falmouth High School.Mr. Carr served in the United States Air Force. He married Patricia Cleaves Carr and returned to Maine to raise their family. Richard worked many years for Pratt Abbott Cleaners and Alltex Uniform Rental Services before his retirement. Upon his retirement, he married Joyce Weeks Carr and moved to Sanford. Mr. and Mrs. Carr were members of the AMVETS and VFW in Sanford.Red was a friendly man with a wonderful sense of humor, endearing to all who were lucky enough to know him. He was a kind and patient father, a loving husband, and a loyal worker who worked long hours to provide for his family. He never lost his sense of humor, as well as his enjoyment of a good cup of coffee, a crabmeat roll, and a refreshing afternoon nap. Richard most enjoyed being in the company of good friends and spending time with his beloved family.Mr. Carr was predeceased by his mother Phyllis Hodgkins Carr and father Albert Homer Carr, as well as his wife Patricia Cleaves Carr.Richard is survived by his wife Joyce Weeks Carr and her son Ronald Weeks of Sanford; his brother Brent Carr and wife Diane of Brunswick; his daughters: Belinda Carr Mooers and Jean Schroeder of Cape Elizabeth, Pamela Carr Prevost and husband Rick of Topsham; his son Jeffrey Carr of Lisbon; his grandchildren: Kathryn Mooers Lamb and her husband Bill of Portland; Kyler Mooers of Portland, Monique and Michelle Prevost of Topsham, Nicholas Levesque of Lewiston; and great grandchildren Braden and Daisy Lamb of Portland, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.We will all miss our father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, but we are thankful for the wonderful 81 years that we enjoyed having him in our lives.The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Maine Medical Center in Portland and the Newton Center in Sanford for the kindness and care they provided to Mr. Carr.A memorial service with military honors will be held to honor Mr. Carr at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 82 Stanley Road, Springvale on Monday, May 16th at 1 PM. Friends and family members are welcome to attend.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.The Carr family would like to suggest that in lieu of memorial donations/flowers, that you take a moment today to visit a local nursing home or elderly neighbor, and put a smile on someone's face.
